Fwd: 4th of July festivities

The Palmer/Rauterkus family invites you to their annual 4th of July party (this is our 26th year).  The party starts at 7pm on the 4th at 108 South 12th Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15203.

There is lots of space in the house for air conditioned visiting.  The deck offers a great view of the city and the fireworks.  Our indoor game room is now a putting green – we'll supply clubs.  We also have a park a block away with climbers, basketball court, and a big field for games so bring the kids and they'll have lots to do.  We have the party rain or shine since we have plenty of space indoors. We supply napkins, plates, utensils, cups and lemonade.  If you want something more exciting (and we hope you do), please bring some to share (food or beverage).  Preferably finger foods (but we'll have some plastic spoons and forks around as well). Everyone is welcome – please feel free to bring friends, relatives, etc.  If you need to reach us, call 412-298-3526 or email at mark@rauterkus.com or palmercv@upmc.edu. You don't need to RSVP, but we always love to know who is coming so feel free to let us know (otherwise, surprise us!).      Hope to see you…

Hiring the new PPS Superintendent

Hi PPS Board Members.

I have been following this noise about the hiring of Dr. Anthony Hamlet as close as possible and have some suggestions. STICK TO YOUR prior DECISION.

Sure, a storm has come. Blame goes here and there in bits, but golly. Plug ahead.

I feel that saboteurs are trying to derail elected school boards and are trying to damage Pittsburgh Public Schools.

The board voted 9-0 to hire the guy. To change your views now would spoil the desire for others to seek the job. None would want to deal with the mess in this wake, plus deal with a fickle board, nor confront the wire-pulling and outside influence from beyond the school board.

IMHO, two of those claims are bogus fabrications. An open source approach of wikipedia on a definition of terms is desired and should not be original.

There should be some repercussions and remedies. I have made some solution suggestions. Follow my Facebook page and http://Rauterkus.blogspot.com.

Triple his probation period.

Seek a partial refund from the consultant.

Allow for a super MINORITY to terminate his contract within the probation period.

Work harder.

+ +

Final two points:

#1: I volunteer to stand with you or stand alone and talk to the media, the citizens. other politicians, union leaders or anyone else on this topic.

#2: Furthermore, Let's begin again with sports reform, something that did NOT resonate with Dr. Linda Lane, sadly. Teaching our kids how to play well with others isn't an expensive proposition, and it is a great investment if done well. I volunteer to help to re-think the issues with PPS. System-wide athletics, sports, after-school recreation, swimming, student leadership with jobs and after-school technology have pressing issues. The city can't wait to get started on the heavy lifting on those fronts.

Good luck.

QuarkExpress weirdness with HTML5 -- update -- problem fixed.

Update:

I was not seeing the right things because I was not using the most current version of the software. I had thought I was launching Quark 2016 -- but wrongly -- I was using the older version, Quark 2015.

The new features are not in the older software, of course.

Sorry.

Trying to get QuarkExpress to export HTML5 and the things on my screen do not seem to match what is in the manual.

Manual has:

Notice 10 on the right side with the globe-like icon.

My screen has this:

NO globe icon.

Then my screen has no HTML5 export option.

Go figure. What's up?

Quark release a new manual called “Digital Publishing with QuarkXPress 2016”.
It can be found here and describes how to create app content for native apps, ebooks in the EPUB2 and EPUB3 format (reflow and fixed-layout) and HTML5 Publications:

Hello Water Polo Players,

You are invited to The Quarry Water Polo Scramble August 13th-14th.  The tournament will take place in Garrettsville, Ohio, in large spring fed quarry nested in a 250 acre campground.

This is a hat tournament, accepting individual or group registration as opposed to teams as normal. Teams will be formed randomly the week prior to the tournament, with preferred positions and skill level taken into consideration. Essentially, we'll throw your names in a hat, pull em out randomly, and there's your team. You can pick up to 3 other friends to baggage with. Just include their names when you register and boom, you have a group of 4. Team sizes and number of games will vary based on participation, so please help spread the word!

There will be a group dinner Saturday night, and live music throughout.  Entry fees will be
a tiered pricing structure this year.  Prices will increase on July 1, so sign up soon!  Last year we had ~50% of participants sign up the week prior to the tournament, making planning extremely difficult.

Please view the event website/facebook for more information:
